On July 13, 2015, the Dawukou People's Court in Shizuishan sentenced Cheng to eight years and six months in prison for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).

On September 2, 2015, the Shizuishan Municipal Intermediate People's Court upheld Cheng's sentence.
