In August 2020, Bandung police arrested Darmawan after he was accused of insulting the Prophet Muhammad and Islam on social media.
On December 22, 2020, the Bandung District Court sentenced Darmawan to five years in prison and fined him 800 million rupiah for “disseminating information aimed at inflicting hatred or dissension on individuals and/or certain groups of community based on ethnic groups, religions, races, and inter-groups” (Art. 28 Electronic Information and Transaction (ITE)).

Muhammad Kece is imprisoned for expression about religion.
On August 24, 2021, authorities arrested Kece, a preacher, at a friend’s home in Bali after accusing him of posting videos on YouTube insulting the Prophet Muhammad and Islam. Kece is reportedly charged with “disseminating information aimed at inflicting hatred or dissension on individuals and/or certain groups of community based on ethnic groups, religions, races, and inter-groups” (Art. 45(2) in conjunction with Art. 28(2) Electronic Information and Transaction (ITE)) and/or “insulting a religion" or "preventing a person from adhering to any religion based on a belief in God” (Art. 156a ICC).
On April 6, 2022, the Ciamis District Court in West Java province sentenced Kece to 10 years in prison.

Doni Irawan Malay was imprisoned for blasphemy.
On August 4, 2020, a court in Medan sentenced Malay to three years in prison for “insulting a religion" or "preventing a person from adhering to any religion based on a belief in God” (Art. 156a ICC). Malay was accused of desecrating a Qur’an inside a mosque and out on a street in February 2020. The date of Malay’s arrest is unclear.
