Trinle Tsekar was imprisoned in relation to protesting religious freedom conditions. 

On November 20, 2013, public security officials detained Tsekar in Biru (Driru) town, Biru county, Naqu (Nagchu) prefecture, Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR).  Authorities had reportedly suspected that Tsekar and others were instigating protests against mining operations at Naglha Dzamba, a mountain regarded as religiously significant. 

On December 19, 2013, the Biru County People’s Court reportedly sentenced Tsekar to nine years in imprisonment for activities intended to "split" Tibet from China.

Tsekar's sentence should have ended in November 2022.

On January 10, 2022, police in Draggo (Luhuo) county, Kardze (Ganzi) Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture (TAP), Sichuan province, detained three pilgrims, including Nortso, on their way home from the Buddhist monastic complex at Larung Gar in Sertar (Seda) county, Kardze TAP, to Dragyab (Chaya) county, Chamdo municipality, Tibet Autonomous Region. Authorities searched their phones and found images of recent demolitions of Buddha statues at Draggo Monastery in Draggo county.
