Abdullo Shamsiddin is imprisoned for his affiliation with a religiously based political party.
On January 18, 2023, Shamsiddin, who had been living in Germany since 2009, was extradited to Tajikistan after failing to submit proper documentation in a timely manner to German migration authorities. Upon arrival in Tajikistan, Shamsiddin was placed in pretrial detention.
On March 29, 2023, a court in Dushanbe sentenced Shamsiddin to seven years in prison on charges of "public calls to violent change of the constitutional order of Tajikistan" (Art. 307 TCC) for his affiliation with the Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan (IRPT), which has been banned as an extremist group since 2015.
