Ayshemhan Yasin was detained for her ethnoreligious identity and for going on pilgrimage.
In late 2017, authorities in Turpan municipality, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR), detained Yasin, her husband, and another relative, reportedly in relation to their going on pilgrimage in the past. Yasin's detention came amid mass detentions of largely Muslim ethnic minorities in XUAR.
In early 2019, Yasin was released from detention.
