Azamat Abutalipov was imprisoned for his religious belief and activity.
In March 2017, Ufa’s October District Court sentenced Abutalipov to a suspended sentence for extremism charges under Article 282.2.
In June 2017, the Supreme Court of Bashkortostan overthrew Abutalipov's suspended sentence and resentenced him to four years in prison for “organizing the activities of a public or religious association or other organization in respect of which a court has adopted a final decision to liquidate or ban activities in connection with extremist activities” (Art. 282.2-1 RCC). Prosecutors accused Abutalipov of being a member of the Jamaat Hizmet movement, recruiting young people to the movement's ideology, renting apartments to hold classes, and disseminating propaganda about the movement and its ideology.
On June 27, 2017, Abutalipov was taken into custody.
On an unspecified date, Abutalipov was released following the end of his sentence.
