Cao Qian is imprisoned for her religious activity. 

On May 28, 2020, authorities in Xiaoyi city, Shanxi province, arrested Cao for being in possession of Falun Gong materials. 

On January 11, 2021, the Wenshui County People’s Court sentenced Cao to five years in prison for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).

On May 27, 2021, the Intermediate People’s Court of Lüliang city, Shanxi, upheld Cao's sentence.
