Chen Kaiqi was imprisoned for his religious activity.
On June 28, 2016, police in Ningde municipality, Fujian province, detained Chen in relation to her production and dissemination of Falun Gong promotional materials.
On May 10, 2017, the Jiaocheng People's Court sentenced Chen to seven years in prison for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL) and fined him 10,000 yuan.
On August 2, 2017, the Ningde Intermediate People's Court rejected Chen's appeal.
Chen's sentence should have ended in June 2023.
