Chen Xiaoying was imprisoned for her religious belief and activity. 

On March 20, 2014, authorities detained Chen for allegedly organizing religious assemblies and being in possession of religious materials with intent to distribute. There are reports that Chen was tortured while detained. 

In May 2015, the Fucheng District People’s Court in Mianyang city sentenced Chen to seven years in prison for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).

On an unspecified date, the Mianyang Intermediate People’s Court increased Chen's sentence by two years to nine years in prison.

Chen's sentence should have ended in March 2023.
