On November 9, 2018, authorities in Daqing municipality, Heilongjiang province, arrested Du alongside dozens of Falun Gong practitioners.

On September 29, 2019, Ranghulu People's Court sentenced Du to seven years in prison and fined him 20,000 yuan for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).

Du is reportedly serving his sentence in Hulan Prison.
