Exmet Turdi is imprisoned for his religious activity and ethnoreligious identity.
In July 2017, authorities detained Turdi, a wool and hide trader, under unclear circumstances. His arrest came amid mass detentions of ethnic minorities in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Turdi's brother reportedly said that some of his relatives were detained in relation to either growing beards or having religious materials at their homes or religious content on their phones.
On an unspecified date, Turdi was reportedly sentenced to seven years in prison on unknown charges.
