Frutos Constantino Valle Salmerón is detained for his affiliation with the Catholic Church and his religious leadership role.
On July 26, 2024, the Nicaraguan police arrested Salmerón, a priest and the administrator of the Diocese of Estelí. Salmerón's arrest occurred after police informed him that the Diocese's priestly ordination of three deacons, scheduled for July 27, 2024, was prohibited.
Shortly after Salmerón's arrest, the authorities transferred him to the National Seminary of Our Lady of Farima in Managua. There, Salmerón is under police surveillance and not permitted to leave.
