On April 19, 2018, public security officers in Wuhan municipality, Hubei province, arrested Hou and four other Falun Gong practitioners at an apartment in Hongshan district, Wuhan.
In September 2019, the Hongshan District People’s Court sentenced Hou to eight years in prison. The charges were unspecified.
On an unspecified date, the Wuhan Intermediate People’s Court rejected Hou's appeal.
