Ilkham Karimov was imprisoned for his religious belief and activity.
On May 27, 2018, authorities arrested Karimov following police raids on several Jehovah's Witness homes. Authorities reportedly seized electronics and passports. Karimov was being investigated for "organizing the activities of a banned, extremist community" (Art. 282.2-1) and "participating in extremist activities" (Art. 282.2-2).
On November 2, 2018, the Supreme Court of Tatarstan ordered Karimov be placed under house arrest.
In April 2019, Karimov's house arrest order was lifted, and he was placed on recognizance.
On December 16, 2021, the Naberezhnye Chelny City Court of Tatarstan sentenced Karimov to two years and six months of suspended imprisonment.
Karimov is married with a child.
