Jamshidbek Iboydullaevich Atabekov is imprisoned for his religious activity.
On March 30, 1998, the Jizzakh City Court convicted Atabekov of "illegal production, purchase, storage, and other activities with narcotic and psychotropic substances without purpose of sale (Art. 276 UCC).
On July 3, 1999, the Jizzakh Region Court sentenced Atabekov to 11 years in prison for “attempts to overthrow the constitutional order” (Art. 159 UCC), "illegal possession of arms, ammunition, explosive substances, or explosive assemblies" (Art. 248 UCC), and "illegal production, purchase, storage, and other activities with narcotic and psychotropic substances without purpose of sale (Art. 276 UCC). Human rights defenders allege that his criminal case was fabricated.
On August 15, 2008, the Navoi Region Court sentenced Atabekov to 16 years and six months in prison for “organizing a criminal group” (Art. 242 UCC), “attempts to overthrow the constitutional order” (Art. 159 UCC), and an unspecified subsection of Article 244 UCC.
He is currently being held in CEP 10 in Koson, Qashqadaryo.
