On March 8, 2018, police in Liupanshui city, Guizhou province, detained Jian reportedly in relation to her religious beliefs and organizing meetings for worship.
On March 19, 2019, the Zhongshan District People’s Court of Liupanshui City sentenced Jian to seven years in prison for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
On an unspecified date, the Liupanshui Intermediate People’s Court reportedly rejected Jian's appeal.
