Liu Qing is imprisoned for his religious activity.

On August 15, 2019, authorities from Fuyu county, Songyuan municipality, Jilin province, detained Liu at his apartment reportedly in relation to his practice of Falun Gong.

On August 29, 2019, the Fuyu People's Court sentenced Liu to 11 years in prison.

During his trial, Liu's wife noted how ill he look due to an apparent lack of eating, and his teenage daughter confirmed during a prison visit on September 27, 2019, that Liu had already been sent to the prison hospital twice since his initial arrest.
