On July 25, 2022, police in Sershul (Shiqu) county, Kardze (Ganzi) Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan province, detained Lotse after accusing him of organizing a WeChat group without registering it with authorities. The WeChat group had around 100 members and was created to celebrate the birthdays of Tibetan religious figures.
