On October 11, 2018, officers from the Yining City Public Security Bureau detained Meng reportedly for her religious belief, church administrative role, and delivery of religious materials to church members.
On September 4, 2018, the Kuitun City People’s Court sentenced Meng to six years in prison and fined her 30,000 yuan for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
