Mirrakhim Mirsultonov is imprisoned in relation to his religious belief and activity.
In 1999, the Angren District Court sentenced Mirsultonov to eight years in prison for “attempts to overthrow the constitutional order” (Art. 159 UCC) and "illegal possession of arms, ammunition, explosive substances, or explosive assemblies" (Art. 248 UCC).
In 2007, prison authorities accused Mirsultonov of violating prison rules (Art. 221 UCC) and arbitrarily extend his sentence by three years.
In 2008, authorities brought new charges against Mirsultonov for “attempts to overthrow the constitutional order” (Art. 159 UCC) and an unspecified subsection of Article 244 UCC. The Qashqadaryo Region Court sentenced him to an additional eight years and four months.
