Mukhitdin Irgashev is imprisoned for his religious belief and activity.
On April 1, 2015, officers arrested Irgashev, along with his son in Bukhara, charging them first with administrative offenses and then later with extremism-related offenses. Irgashev ’s wife, Zumrat Irgashev, reports that both her husband and son were subjected to severe torture in custody between April and September 2015, during their trial period. Security services officers allegedly attempted to coerce them into signing false confessions of financing terrorism.
In September 2015, a Tashkent Court sentenced Irgashev to 15 years, Otabek to 11 years, and another son, Sardorbek Irgashev, to 12 years in prison on unspecified charges. According to Zumrat, all three were subjected to torture during pre-trial detention.
Irgashev is married with three children.
