Otabek Madaminov was imprisoned for his religious activity.
On November 5, 1999, the Shakhrikhan District Court in the Andijan region sentenced Madaminov to 12 years and six months in prison for “attempts to overthrow the constitutional order” (Art. 159 UCC) and an unspecified subsection of Article 244 UCC. Rights defenders believe his arrest and sentencing were in retaliation for being Muslim.
In 2010, Madaminov was reportedly sentenced to an additional ten years on unspecified charges.
In 2020, the Navoi Region Court sentenced Madaminov to another nine years for “attempts to overthrow the constitutional order” (Art. 159 UCC) and an unspecified subsection of Article 244 UCC.
