Patime Sayittursun is detained for her religious activity and ethnoreligious identity.
In 2017, authorities detained Sayittursun in Tomosteng town, Yarkand (Shache) County, Kashgar Prefecture, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR), alongside dozens of others Uyghurs, reportedly in relation to their organizing religious sermons unauthorized by authorities. Sayittursun's detention came amid mass detentions of largely Muslim ethnic minorities in XUAR in 2017.
Sayittursun's sisters were also detained.
