Rizaydin Abdureshit is imprisoned for his ethnoreligious identity and in relation to his religiously oriented business.
In 2018, authorities in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) detained Abdureshit possibly in relation to his ownership of a halal goods trading company in Urumqi. Abdureshit's detention coincided with the arrests of other family members, including his father and uncle, reportedly in relation to a now-closed charitable fund founded by his uncle to support education abroad for Uyghurs. Abdureshit's detention came amid mass detentions of largely Muslim ethnic minorities in XUAR in 2017 and 2018.
On an unspecified date, Abdureshit was reportedly sentenced to 15 years in prison.
