Ro Mah Pla was imprisoned for his religious belief and activity.
In 2013, authorities arrested Pla after accusing him of taking direction from Montagnards overseas to spread Degar Protestantism, a religious movement not approved by the government, and establish separatist networks.
In March 2014, the People's Court of Gia Lai Province sentenced Pla to nine years in prison and three to five years' probation for "undermining national unity policy" (Art. 87/1999 VCC).
Pla's sentence should have ended.
