Rustem Seytmemetov is imprisoned for his alleged religious activity. 

On March 11, 2020, authorities arrested Seytmemetov for allegedly being a member of the banned Hizb ut-Tahrir organization. 

On October 29, 2021, the Southern District Military Court in the city of Rostov-on-Don sentenced Seytmemetov to 13 years in prison for “participating in the activities of an organization…recognized as terrorist” (Art. 205.5-2 RCC) and "preparing for actions aimed at the forcible seizure of power or the forcible retention of power” (Art. 30-1/Art. 278 RCC). 

On February 9, 2023, the Military Court of Appeal in Vlasikha upheld Seytmemetov's sentence.

In July 2023, it was reported that Seytmemetov's health had deteriorated.

In May 2024, Seytmemetov suffered a heart attack and was taken to the hospital for surgery.

Seytmemetov is married with two children.
