Salma Tanveer is imprisoned and sentenced to death for blasphemy.
In September 2013, authorities arrested Tanveer, a school principal, after she was accused of distributing writings that denied the finality of the Prophet Muhammad and claimed herself to be a prophet. She was charged with "insulting the Prophet Muhammad" (Sec. 295-C PPC).
On September 27, 2021, Tanveer was sentenced to death and fined 50,000 rupees. The judge also rejected her plea of not guilty by reason of insanity under Section 84 of Pakistan's Penal Code.
