Sergey Klimov was imprisoned for his religious belief and activity.
On June 3, 2018, authorities arrested Klimov and charged him with “organizing the activities of a public or religious association or other organization in respect of which a court has adopted a final decision to liquidate or ban activities in connection with extremist activities” (Art. 282.2-1 RCC).
On November 5, 2019, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Tomsk sentenced Klimov to six years in prison, one year of restricted freedom, and a five-year ban on engaging in educational activities at educational institutions and posting materials online.
On February 20, 2020, Klimov's sentence was upheld.
On April 30, 2020, Klimov was transferred to correctional colony No. 8 in the Astrakhan region.
On July 26, 2023, Sergey Klimov was released after completing his sentence.
It is reported that Klimov's health has deteriorated in prison, especially his eyesight.
Klimov is married.
