Shahnaz Sabet is imprisoned for her religious belief and activity.

On September 1, 2019, authorities arrested Sabet from her home reportedly in relation to her being Baha'i.

On an unspecified date, Sabet was released on bail.

On May 10, 2020, Branch 1 of the Shiraz Revolutionary Court sentenced Sabet to five years in prison for "membership in organizations that aim to disrupt national security" (Art. 499 IPC) and one year for "propaganda against the state" (Art. 500 IPC). Sabet was expected to serve five years in prison as the sentences ran concurrently.

In July 2020, the Shiraz Court of Appeals reduced Sabet's sentence to two years in prison.

On October 12, 2020, Sabet was taken into custody to begin serving her sentence.

On May 2, 2021, Sabet was released from prison as her request for a retrial by the Supreme Court was approved.
