On August 5, 2020, authorities arrested Masih after he was accused of posting blasphemous content on Facebook about Eid al-Adha and the Prophet Muhammad. According to reports, the incident resulted in protests and damage to the local police station. Masih was charged with "intending to outrage religious feelings" (Sec. 295-A PPC) and "insulting the Prophet Muhammad" (Sec. 295-C PPC).
