Urayim Axun

Extra Bio Info:

Urayim Axun was imprisoned for his ethnoreligious identity.

In 2017, public security officials in Kashgar Konasheher (Shufu) County, Kashgar (Kashi) Prefecture, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR), detained Axun and his wife, Hawa Musayim, and accused them of "religious extremism" reportedly in relation to Musayim's wearing of long clothing and a headscarf, which are expressions of Uyghur Muslims’ cultural identity.  Axun's detention came amid mass detentions of largely Muslim ethnic minorities in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) in 2017.

On an unspecified date, Axun was reportedly sentenced to six years in prison on unknown charges.

Axun's sentence should have ended.
