On August 19, 2017, officers from Changji City Public Security Bureau detained Wang reportedly in relation to her religious belief.
On an unspecified date, the Qitai Reclamation Area People’s Court in Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps sentenced Wang to five years and six months in prison and fined her 5,000 yuan for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
Wang's sentence should have ended in February 2023.
