In October 2018, officers from the Public Security Bureau in the Chepaizi Reclamation Area detained Wang reportedly in relation to her religious belief, religious leadership role, and organizing of worship meetings.
On December 18, 2019, the Chepaizi Reclamation Area People’s Court sentenced Wang to five years in prison and fined her 9,000 yuan for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
Wang's sentence should have ended in October 2023.
