Wei Zaiqiang was imprisoned for his religious activity.
In December 2016, authorities arrested Wei after accusing him of leaving messages about Falun Gong in public areas. Police reportedly seized Falun Gong-related materials, his computer, and other personal belongings from his home.
In March 2019, Wei was sentenced to four years and six months in prison.
In April 2020, the Xi’an City Intermediate Court reportedly rejected Wei's appeal.
On June 18, 2021, Wei was released after completing his sentence.
