Wu Chaoqi was imprisoned for his religious activity.
In August 2018, authorities from of Dianbai district, Maoming municipality, Guangdong province, detained Wu Chaoqi, his mother, Lin Lizhen, and his aunt, Lin Yanmei.
On August 13, 2019, the Maonan District People's Court in Maoming sentenced to five years in prison and fined him 10,000 yuan for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
On December 2, 2019, Wu's appeal was denied.
Wu's sentence should have ended in August 2023.
